Freshman volleyball wins the Conference with a victory over Byron Center
On Tuesday, the Rangers looked to beat Byron Center and win the OK White Conference championship. The Rangers had already beat this Byron team, so they really liked their odds going into the game.
In the first set, you could tell the game was going to be a good one as both teams came out with tremendous energy. Both teams made some great plays, but eventually the Rangers started to break away from Byron due to their great communication and energy all over the court. Two players in particular really stepped up for the Rangers. Freshmen Elena Kavanugh and Letizia Cumbo both had exceptional games ultimately leading the team to victory. Byron still had great energy, and they weren’t going to be let up that easy. The first set came down to the wire, with a 23-23 score. The girls kept on playing their game and ended up winning 25-23.
In the second set, the Rangers carried the momentum from the exhausting first set and used it to get a solid lead early in the second. The girls would end up gaining a solid lead on Byron, and then never let up, eventually winning the second set 25-19.
“Everyone had lots of great energy and communication throughout the whole game,” freshman Kadence Roelfzema said.
This huge win put the Rangers at the top of the conference, and showed that they had the potential to beat any team they wanted. The girls play their next game at home against a non-conference Wayland team on Thursday, October 29.
