Cameron Penner

Cameron Penner, Staff Writer

Cameron Penner is a senior returning to the newspaper after two-and-a-half long, difficult years away. He took the intro class the first semester of his freshman year and fell in love with writing, but he had to swap out of it second semester for band. And because he needed to get all of his credits to graduate and continue doing band, he never had any time to come back—until now. Cam enjoys trying many new things, ranging from instruments to fun hairstyles. He is so excited to be writing again, even if it’s not in the actual TCT class. He plans to write as much as he can regarding things such as music, pop culture, and more.

Cam or Cameron? Whatever feels best for you!!

Favorite band right now: I’ve been listening to a ton of Guster lately, but I’m into many other groups, such as Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, America, and many other classic rock bands. I also love all things Jazz related.

Favorite DCI show: Bluecoats 2024 was phenomenal and unbeatable. I’d say Phantom Regiment 2024 is a close second; tied for 3rd would be Bluecoats 2025 and Boston Crusaders 2025. Both were great shows, but I’m very happy that Boston won!

How many instruments? There were 14 last time that I counted, so we’ll go with that. Recently, Miss Dykstra unexpectedly gave me a pan flute from Guatemala!

Smoke rising from the candle

I don’t remember what warmth feels like. I was once clothed by the blanket of love, waking up every day enveloped in its soothing embrace. I once believed it to be eternal, lasting my entire lifetime...

My time spent on the field as a part of the band will never be forgotten.

Under the lights

Cameron Penner, Staff Writer November 12, 2025

Ever since my feet left the turf, my mind has continuously wandered back to age thirteen, where I stood on the carpeted office floor, requesting a schedule change. I was tired of taking pictures; I wanted...

I wish that my life wasn't full of buzzes and dings from my phone all the time.

Cell phones: the loss of unavailability

Cameron Penner, Staff Writer October 27, 2025

Throughout my childhood, before I was cursed with open availability, I dreamed of owning my own landline. I pictured the green phone hanging on my wall, accompanied by the curly cord that I could twirl...

At age thirteen, I once lived on the hardwood floor.

Thirteen, going on seventeen

Cameron Penner, Staff Writer October 5, 2025

In seventh grade, I believed that I would not exist at thirteen. This was not a suicidal ideation; I just believed once you reached thirteen, life did not continue. On the night of my thirteenth birthday,...

Life is good in the car

Cameron Penner, Staff Writer September 8, 2025

Three years fly by quickly when sitting in a car. Life moves all around; decades worth of trees and memories surround the vehicle, moving at high speeds. This car ride was very enjoyable, filled with sunny...

Listening to Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You" while walking my dog today.

My rose is music

Cameron Penner, Junior Writer December 8, 2022

I always seek out the melodies of life. A vacant silence is a torturous place for the mind, no matter what setting I happen to be in. Alongside a series of tears that run down my cheek as I weep, or if...

A leaf I saw on a walk last winter that looked like a heart.

This time of year has changed

Cameron Penner, Junior Writer November 14, 2022

This time of year will never change.  This time of hot chocolate and pajamas. This time of transforming the house into Home Alone and praying the Grinch won’t steal the gifts. This time of everlasting...
