Enola Holmes 2 brings me back to two years ago

IMDb

Enola Holmes 2 is the sequel to Enola Holmes, which came out two years ago on Netflix.

When the original Enola Holmes movie came out in 2020, I think it’s safe to assume that I wasn’t the only girl getting caught up in a Louis Partridge spiral. While I wouldn’t call it quite an obsession, I was definitely crushing hard. I hadn’t known who he was prior to the movie, or if he was in any other film, so I sat patiently waiting for news.

Then, of course, I fell out of the spiral and didn’t keep up with any other projects he was working on. But when Enola Holmes 2 was announced, I was excited.

Enola Holmes 2 picks up a bit after where the original movie left off. Enola Holmes, played by Millie Bobby Brown, opens her own detective agency in London. Very few cases made their way into her agenda until a young girl named Bessie Chapman (Serrana Su-Ling Bliss) walked in through her almost-closed door. Bessie’s sister Sarah had gone missing, and it just so happened that Enola specialized in missing person cases and was all too ready to help. To find Sarah, Enola steps into Sarah and Bessie’s everyday lives to find any loose strings. In doing so, she undercovers a greater mystery than she could’ve imagined behind Sarah’s disappearance.

The cast of the Enola Holmes franchise enhances the films with their fame. To start, Enola is played by one of the most famous actors on Netflix at this time, Millie Bobby Brown. Known for her role in Stranger Things as Eleven, Brown has become a household name within my generation. While Louis Partridge, who plays Tewkesbury, is gaining popularity, there are others in the cast with even more. This includes actors like Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham Carter. Cavill, who plays Sherlock Holmes in both Enola Holmes movies, is perhaps best known for playing Superman in the DC Universe. Carter plays Eudoria Holmes, Enola’s mother. Carter is, of course, known for her role as Bellatrix LeStrange in the Harry Potter movie series. In addition to Harry Potter, her list of movies and TV shows that she has been a part of is long and impressive.

One of the aspects of Enola Holmes that I have loved in both movies is the costumes. Since the story is supposed to take place in the 1800s, the fashion is true to that era. I have forever loved movies and TV shows that take place during times that involve ball gowns and the sort. Even the simple everyday outfits of the characters entice me. I remember when the original movie came out in 2020, I was searching for more films set in that time period just for the outfits.

The entire concept of Enola Holmes 2 enthralled me. The mystery kept my attention one-hundred percent focused on the movie, which is not typical of my movie-watching capabilities. The movie is also based on the Enola Holmes book series, and I am a huge believer in the superiority of book-based movies. I am waiting to find a time when my list of to-be-read books is short enough to sneak into the Enola Holmes series.

Enola Holmes 2 brought back feelings of nostalgia from a mere two years ago, even though it feels as though I waited a lifetime but only had a second to blink between the film’s releases.
