Season 2 of Ginny and Georgia was consistent with its entertainment level

Murder, mother-daughter relationship, marriage.

These are the core concepts woven throughout the plot of the youthful, yet complex, Netflix series Ginny and Georgia

Season two of Ginny and Georgia was released on Netflix on January 5, 2023, making it one of Netflix’s first shows to gain a new season for the new year.

In season one, we were introduced to arguably the best character, Georgia. Georgia is played by actress Brianne Howey. She is one of two main characters, the other being her daughter: Ginny. Ginny is played by Antonia Gentry. Georgia got pregnant with Ginny when she was 15 years old, and it’s been them against the world ever since.

On the outside, this show appears to give off Gilmore Girls vibes. Both take place in a small town and showcase the strong bond between a mother and daughter. However, as an avid Gilmore Girls watcher, as well as Ginny and Georgia viewer, they are very different.

Ginny and Georgia has a dark underlying tone that allows it to deal with heavier topics such as murder, abuse, and depression. These topics, although sometimes hard to watch, play out on screen, giving the show a deeper meaning and many more layers to unpack while watching.

We see this ominous tone even more in season two with new character Gil Timmins–played by Aaron Ashmore. Gil was mentioned last season as Austin’s—Ginny’s younger brother—dad. Austin’s—Ginny’s younger brother—dad. Austin is played by actor Diesel La Torraca. Their family tree, although complicated, doesn’t even begin to touch the level of complication that Gil brought when he joined the screen.

Will it be Ginny’s father Zion—also known as Georgia’s first love, Joe, her childhood crush turned adult best friend, or Paul, her actual husband who defends her to no end?

However, Austin and Gil were not the only couple whose relationship we saw play out this season. We also got to see the romance between Ginny and Marcus–played by Felix Mallard. Last season, we watched as Ginny and Marcus indulged in a secret relationship that was then discovered in the season finale.

This season, we watched the pair find their way back to each other. While I loved watching these two as a couple out in the open, part of me missed the mystery and sneaking around from last season.

Both Ginny and Marcus have many inner demons that they both need to work through, so at times, this puts a strain on their relationship. However, I have hope that these two will be endgame despite the ups and downs this season presents for them.

On the other end of the spectrum, Georgia got married this season—as expected from last season’s plot. However, despite the fact that her now husband Paul put a ring on her finger, some fans are not convinced, and there seems to be quite the debate on which male character is best suited for Georgia.

Will it be Ginny’s father Zion—also known as Georgia’s first love, Joe, her childhood crush turned adult best friend, or Paul, her actual husband who defends her to no end? Whoever she ends up with these actors sure are putting forward their best performances. Zion is played by Nathan Mitchell, Joe is played by Raymond Ablack, and lastly, Paul is played by Scott Porter.

Similar to last season, the final episode—potentially the best episode of the entire season—ended on a cliffhanger. This was to be expected but hard to grasp nonetheless.

While I don’t think there was that much actual character development this season, I did grow even more attached to the characters, and I can’t wait to see what season three will have in store for them.
