The truth is necessary

An+early+morning+during+a+changing+of+seasons

An early morning during a changing of seasons

I will tell you the truth, the simple and undeceiving truth.

For once I won’t hide behind the persona of the sapling or tangle myself too deep in a mess of convoluted, pretty words. This time I’ll stand right here in the plain light, just me, not a sapling, not some other definitely-not made up girl, just me, for once.

Just for these last few columns, this last one month, because this is the last one. The last columns I write. Maybe the last works of words I write that the world has a chance to see. The last ones that I don’t yet again hide in the depths of a drive folder to not ever be seen again, even by me.

Now is the start of a new chapter, and with that, comes some needed change. A change that welcomes all that comes with change, beyond the change itself.

Now, if I were to write this in the words of a younger self, I would say that maturing isn’t just having “the sun finally sing for you.” It isn’t just growing into this wonderful thing. Maturing isn’t just no longer being “terrified of the new moon.” It isn’t just accepting the inevitable change. Maturing is being honest about what is happening and how you feel, no matter if it is positive or negative.

Now is the start of a new chapter, and with that, comes some needed change. A change that welcomes all that comes with change, beyond the change itself.

This is not to say that metaphors and facades should or can be entirely discarded. This is to bring to light their honest selves.

“Musings of a pessimistic idealist” was meant to capture the complexity I felt life held. In order to display that, I wrapped around convoluted sentences with winding vocabulary. But really, it was all in the “Art of not telling you.”

“The truth” is simple and straightforward. It has nothing to hide. It is bold in its bareness, its rawness, its nakedness. And that’s how the truth should be.

As cliches have told you, the truth can be ugly. And as cliches have probably also told you, the truth can be beautiful. And as cliches have most definitely told you, the truth is a mix of both. But really, it doesn’t matter what the truth is, what it looks like, what it says, what it means. It matters that it is there and put out no matter what it is saying because that is the purpose of truth, to be shared.

So here it is, the simple and undeceiving truth.
