Freshmen Volleyball goes 1-1 in the Battle of the Hills
Freshmen Rachel Toole and Delaney Michalski helped the Rangers go 1-1 in the Battle of the Hills vs rivals Forest Hills Eastern and Forest Hills Northern on Wednesday. Rachel helped pass the ball and create opportunities for her teammates, while Delaney hit the ball. Rachel and Delaney combined for a big victory against FHE. The Rangers almost made a comeback against FHN, but ended up losing the game 2-1.
The game against FHE was a great team effort and a big time win for the Rangers. Rachel’s unselfish passing along with Delaney’s outstanding scoring helped her teammates make big plays, which was a huge factor to help the team win against the Hawks. The first game against FHN was not pretty, losing by 10 points and quickly put them down 1-0. The Rangers did not give up at that point, however, storming back to beat the Huskies in game two and evening up the overall score at 1-1. The last game was a very exciting and nerve racking for both teams, but the Huskies barely got the victory 16-14 to win the set 2-1.
The Rangers competed very well, and showed they can beat both teams. The goal for Lily VanSkiver and the rest of the team is to remain very close to each other to build team chemistry. They will have another shot at FHN this season, as the OK white schedule opens up. The Rangers have another tournament at East Kentwood this Saturday, before a showdown on Tuesday against FHN.
