Boys varsity tennis places second at Grosse Pointe
Saturday morning was an intense eight team tournament at Grosse Pointe for the varsity tennis team. Eight out of the best nine teams in Michigan were at this tournament with FHC placing 2nd as a team. Senior Connor Genschaw had an outstanding performance while beating Portage Central’s one singles who beat Connor earlier in the season.
Senior Tyler George and sophomore Ali Azeem won 4 doubles along with brother duo Michael and Christopher Battiste who won 3 doubles. These wins put FHC over the edge to take 2nd overall at the tournament.
The boys next match is today at Northview, with another quickly following tomorrow as the boys have three matches at Midland Dow in a quad. Midland Dow is the team that took first over FHC at the tournament Saturday. The quad tomorrow should be a tough competition, but senior Tyler George is optimistic.
“This next tournament will set the tone for the rest of the season,” Tyler said. “Our goal is to win states and we have to beat the best to do so.”
