Boys varsity tennis ties 4-4 with FHN in conference
The boys varsity tennis team have been waiting for their Conference matches all season. Last Thursday, FHC held all singles matches while FHN held all doubles matches. All of FHC’s flights on Thursday found ways to win, leading them to Monday’s Conference championship matches.
Seniors Aidan Rynbrandt and Jacob Wiltjer played one doubles. The boys had a bye for their first match on Thursday. For their second match they pulled out a 6-1 win.
“We had a lot of momentum going into the FHN match after beating Lowell.” Jacob said.
Continuing Conferences on Monday, every flight was at FHN. 1 doubles, 2 doubles, and 3 doubles won and will be continuing on to Regionals. Senior Connor Genschaw plays 1 singles and was the only singles flight to win for the Rangers. This is a big win for Connor, as he will also be going into Regionals. If Connor were to win at Regionals, he would then go on in hopes of winning a state title.
“Winning Conferences and beating FHN in finals was a huge win,” Connor said. “FHN will be my toughest competitors again in the Regionals, so carrying this win into the regional will help keep my confidence level high. So every win counts.”
With the wins on Monday, FHC tied FHN 4-4 in the Conference tournament. The duel match during the season between the two was worth 50 percent of the Conference tournament. The tie on Monday also counted towards the Conference’s championship. Because FHN won the regular season dual, along with the tie in the conference tournament, they ended up winning the OK white. FHC will host regionals this Thursday as the postseason kicks off for our players.
