Varsity soccer beats Rockford 3-1 in first District game
More stories from Tobey Hendricks
It was a very cold night on Monday, October 16th as FHC took on Rockford for the first round of Districts. Like a lot of previous games for the Rangers, they found themselves with control of the ball for most of the game. Whether it was shots not on goal or loss of possession they couldn’t seem to find a goal to start off the game, until during the first half Senior Ryan Downey was able to free himself up and rifle one into the back of the net, giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead as they went into half. That goal would ignite this Ranger offense, with senior Eric Conerty tallying up two goals in the second half. The highlight of the night would be the defense, as Rockford was unable to keep possession of the ball during most of the game and when they were able to get open for a shot, senior goalie Jared Ireland would be all over it. Ireland ended the game with 6 saves and 1 goal allowed which came with only a couple seconds left on the clock.
Next up for the Rangers is Wyoming who they will be playing on Wednesday, October 18th at home. This home field advantage is huge late in the season, especially moving into districts and beyond.
