Cross country conference championship
This was the meet that determined it all, the conference championship. It determined which top six from each team would run in regionals and advance to further races. The race took place at Cedar Springs High School and the teams running included Forest Hills Northern, Cedar Springs, Lowell, Northview, Ottawa Hills and Greenville. Knowing the Rangers, they battled hard and ran quick. The girls team finished second and the boys finished third overall in the conference. On the girls side, they finished with three in the top ten and on the boys side they finished with two in the top ten.
For the girls, freshman Whitney Currie finished first once again, and sixth overall. Her finishing time was a 19:56. Second for the girls was sophomore Nicole Marco finishing in eighth with a time of 20:11. Right behind Nicole was junior Susannah Bennett with a time of 20:15. On the boys side, finishing first once again and sixth overall was sophomore Gabe Carlson with a time of 16:53. Right behind Gabe, ninth overall, was freshman Kyle James-Heer with a time of 17:08. Then, in third for the boys was junior Geoffrey Batterbee with a time of 17:22.
Knowing that the team finished second and third in the conference, the coaches are exciting as the team goes into regionals and post regional races. As the season comes to an end, many runners are working hard to finish their strongest and fastest. Regionals occurs next Saturday, October 28th at Allendale High School.
