College basketball top 10 teams upset
Jacob’s Upset Game: 2 Kansas (65) vs Washington (74):
This was a matchup between the Jayhawks of Kansas and the Washington Huskies. The game was pretty much a home for the Jayhawks, Kansas was before last night around 30-0 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Washington has a first year coach running the show who has learned a lot when he was a assistant for Coach Boeheim at Syracuse. The Huskies ran a zone the entire game and closed out on shooters at the three point line holding Kansas to 25% from the three. Lagerald Vick for the Jayhawks had a career high 28 but only soring primarily in the middle of the Huskies zone. Washington had very good scoring performances throughout their team with 4 players in doubles figures. The upset was made up of efficient shooting from Washington and breaking down Kansas with the edited 2-3 zone.
Nick’s Upset Game: 7 Texas A&M (64) vs Arizona (67)
This matchup featured the number 7th ranked Aggies matching up against the unranked Wildcats from Arizona. At the beginning of the year Arizona peaked at number 2 in the rankings, but after two bad losses to NC State and SMU they quickly dropped out of the top 25. In a different story Texas A&M have had a great year opening the season with a win over a talented ranked West Virginia team. The game was close the whole way through, each team exchanging punches. Even with Texas A&M’s , Tyler Davis, scoring 21 points the Aggies still went down and lost by 3. Deandre Ayton had a double double , 13 points and 10 rebounds, to propel the Wildcats to victory.
Ty’s Upset Game: #4 Notre Dame vs Ball state
The 5-4 Ball State Cardinals edged out the 7-2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 80-77. The Irish recently lost to #2 Michigan State, but that was their lone loss heading into this one. They fell from #4 to unranked. Tayler Persons led the Cardinals with 24 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Standout forward Bonzie Colson, who some compare to Draymond Green, went off for 26 points and 6 rebounds. The Irish had a fairly balanced scoring attack, but have had their troubles defensively in this one and against Michigan State.
Tobey’s upset game: #5 Florida vs Loyola-Chicago
This was a game everybody assumed would be an easy blowout win for the 5th ranked Florida Gators. However Loyola-Chicago pulled off arguably the biggest upset of this year so far. The final score of the game was 65-59. Aundre Jackson led the Ramblers to the win having 23 points including 10-12 from the field and 3-3 from behind the arc. Not a single player had over 10 points for the Gators on their rough night.
