Freshman girls basketball is defeated by East Kentwood 50-22
Thursday night the Falcons of East Kentwood shut down the Rangers with an aggressive press. Led by freshman Samantha Jerow, the Rangers were able to earn 22 points to East Kentwood’s 50. Although it was a tough loss for the team, it will not affect their conference record.
The Falcons earned a huge lead from getting multiple turnovers off their full court press in the first quarter. The combination of the press and defense of the Falcons let the Rangers score only two baskets in the first eight minutes of the game for a score of 19-4 at the quarter. The Rangers held the Falcons in the second quarter, letting them score only seven points to their six. But the heavily one-sided first quarter still put the Rangers at a 16 point deficit.
The second half did not go much better for the Rangers as they were outscored in both the third and fourth quarters 6-10 and 6-14, respectively. The team will play Grand Haven Tuesday night as they hope to earn their first win of the season.
