Hit or miss sports movies
Hoovey is an inspiring film based on a true story about a young high school student’s love for basketball and playing despite the odds placed against him. Eric “Hoovey” Elliott was the staring point guard for the Olympia High Spartans, until he was faced with a terrible challenge: a brain tumor. Before tryouts, Eric noticed that he couldn’t see while playing a game of one-on-one with his father. He then went to the eye doctor to get glasses. Soon after, Hoovey went to tryouts and left early to go to the doctor where he then got terrible news that he had a brain tumor and they needed to operate to save his life. The doctors took the tumor out, but sadly he was told to not play basketball.
Hoovey takes his chances and plays basketball. It took a lot of work, but Hoovey wanted to be back in the game badly. He got back to how he was before the surgery and stepped out onto the court once again. It was the Championship game, Eric goes up for the three-point shot and he makes it to tie the game 70-70 at the buzzer. However, Hoovey gets knocked down during the shot and hits his head on the ground. You’ll have to watch the movie to find out what happens.
I would give Hoovey and ten on a scale from one to ten. This movie truly shows the dedication of an athlete that is willing to give it their all in order to do what they love. Sure, it’s a little bit cliche, but who doesn’t love a movie that shows what a matter of faith can do?
I would recommend this movie to not just athletes, but to everyone. You can be dedicated in everything you do and Hoovey just goes to show that. Add this to your list of must-see movies because you are not going to want to miss out.
