Varsity hockey ties with Catholic Central 1-1
The Rangers fought another battle with the Catholic Central Cougars Saturday night at Southside Ice Arena. The game ended in a tie 1-1, in what could have been a win and a big momentum booster for FHC. Seniors Jacob Demeter and Charlie Brewer continued to shine by working hard all three periods. Juniors Nathan Hartline and Carl Mielock also played well, as Nathan scored the only goal for the Rangers and Carl had some very good saves at the goalie position.
The first period was good for the Rangers; no goals were scored against FHC thanks to Carl and offensively, the Rangers worked hard to keep to puck in Catholic Central’s zone. In the second period, FHC only allowed three shots on goal for the Cougars. Nathan put the Rangers up 1-0 later in the second and FHC looked to put this game away. However, in the third period, Catholic Central found the back of the net to tie the game at one and set up another overtime duel between the Rangers and the Cougars. OT was a battle, but neither team could put the puck in the net thanks to outstanding performances from both goalies.
This tie puts the Rangers at 2-2-1 in conference play, and 2-8-1 overall. Obviously the non-conference losses hurt the Rangers, but this team is definitely poised to make a run for the OK White title the way they’ve been playing lately. FHC takes on Lowell-Caledonia next Saturday, which is for sure to be a showdown and it would be a big, important win for the Rangers if they can pull it out.
