JV basketball falls 58-52 to Grand Haven
Due to a tough shooting night and too many turnovers, the Rangers fell to Grand Haven 58-52. Sophomore John Corey continued his hot streak from beyond the arc, accompanied by Jacob Ervin with some smooth moves down low. There was a little bit of a lineup change as five guys who don’t start were placed in the starting lineup.
Grand Haven came out hot knocking down multiple three-pointers. When the starters came in late in the first quarter, they found themselves down 12-4. It didn’t take long for the fresh lineup to cut into the lead. At the end of the first, they trailed by 3. The same lineup stayed in to start the second quarter and continued to make plays. Jonah Spates controlled the pace and found guys for open looks. After carrying that momentum into the second quarter, the Rangers bounced back and lead by 4 at the half.
In the second half, turnovers started to become a big issue. On the defensive end, they were able to make uncomfortable. Lack of offensive execution was another thing that hurt the Rangers. Grand Haven, who is a program known for ball pressure, forced them into doing things they don’t normally do. The Rangers got some good looks down the stretch but weren’t able to convert. Next up for the Rangers is Ottawa Hills. In their first match-up, Ottawa Hills was all over them. One of their keys will be exactly what lost them the game against Grand Haven. Keeping the turnovers to a minimum and playing their game. The game will take place Thursday night at Forest Hills Central.
