Varsity volleyball wins first conference match against Cedar Springs 3-0
Tuesday night, the varsity volleyball team defeated the Cedar Springs Red Hawks 3-0 to pick up its first conference win. The win puts the team at 1-2 in conference play.
The Rangers got to an early 8-6 lead in set one. A tip from sophomore Tatum Otolski began a 6-0 run to put the Rangers up 14-6 and led to the Red Hawk’s coach calling a timeout. Coming out of the timeout Cedar Springs earned a point before the Rangers went on another substantial 5-0 run. Senior libero Kate Ryan ended the set 25-11 with an ace.
While the beginning of set two was close, FHC dominated the second half. Cedar Springs was able to tie it 8-8, but the Rangers got 15 consecutive points to completely shift the momentum. Serving the whole time was junior Rachel Nicholson, she earned one ace throughout the run. The Rangers took the game 25-10.
Cedar Springs earned their first lead of the match with a 1-0 lead in the third set. However, the Rangers were able to regain it with a 4-0 run. The set was back and forth for awhile until FHC gained a small 16-14 lead. Cedar Springs tied it after their timeout but were unable to take the lead again for the rest of the set. FHC won the set 25-20.
The next match for the team is this Thursday against Ottawa Hills on the road.
