Freshman football preview: Lowell Red Arrows

The Forest Hills Central freshman football team enters week eight on a roll, winning four games in a row and standing at 6-1 overall. The Rangers are also 3-0 against conference foes, and they will look to continue their winning ways as they host a rival in the Lowell Red Arrows.

Lowell comes into this matchup at 3-3 but is still a very good team. Offensively, the Red Arrows are a smash-mouth team that loves to run the ball. The Rangers will need good defensive-line play from freshmen Carter Kelly, Zach Wright, and Conner Milton. Stopping the run on early downs will be critical to force the Red Arrows’ offense into third and long and pass situations. The Rangers will look for great cornerback play from freshmen Jacob Bonnett and Benny Scholler. The Rangers will get a big boost defensively, as starting linebacker freshman Tyler Weaver has recovered from an injury he suffered early in the season.

The Rangers also get a huge boost offensively from Tyler’s return, as he was the starting running back until his injury. Freshman quarterback Hunter Robinson and running backs Arash Kordbacheh and Quentin Rudolph have really stepped up in the run game in Tyler’s absence. In the passing game, Hunter will look for his playmakers in Jacob, who has a nose for the end zone, Benny, and freshman Colten Jenkins. It will be very important for the Rangers to get off to a fast start in order to pick up yet another win.
