Gmorning, Gnight! provides the perfect motivation to push through life

A few months ago, I finally sat down and listened to the Hamilton soundtrack in its entirety. By the end, I found myself hopelessly and utterly obsessed. Naturally, I made it my mission to find out everything there was to know about the musical, and more importantly, its creator Lin Manuel Miranda.
Through endless hours of Twitter-stalking, I discovered that every morning and every night, Miranda tweets out a few simple words of encouragement to his millions of followers. Each tweet begins with either “good morning” or “good night.” After a bit more research, I was pleased to find that his best ones are comprised into a 201-page book titled Gmorning, Gnight!
Determined to own a copy of this book, I searched all over the Internet. Again and again, I was disappointed to find that most stores near me were out of stock. When the book finally made its way into my hands, my expectations were impossibly high.
And somehow, Miranda managed to surpass them.
At first glance, the book was even more beautiful than the numerous pictures I had seen online. The simplicity of the design was very attractive. I felt almost nervous to open the book; the anticipation was brimming inside me. Eventually, I lifted the cover and began to flip through the pages. I only skimmed, but every word popped out, drawing me in.
Finally, I sat down and read the entire book in 45 minutes. My eyelids were begging to close the whole time, but by sheer willpower, I kept them open, unwilling to stop reading. I inhaled the words, each one giving me the motivation to read the next. When I finished the book, I was left with a deep-seated feeling of contentment.
As I read, I tucked away a few of my favorite poems to a secret pocket in the back of my mind. Miranda’s talents vary widely, but he has a special ability to make you feel appreciated and valued, undeterred by the fact that he doesn’t even know you exist.
The poems were enhanced by black-and-white sketches scattered across every page. The illustrator, Jonny Sun, is another Twitter favorite with a special talent for art. Some of the illustrations were more playful, while others were whimsical. Each one made the pages more engaging.
Gmorning, Gnight! sticks in your mind like glue, long after you read it, ready to resurface on a rainy day. It’s the perfect combination of comforting and motivating. Miranda writes what he needs to hear himself, which is so often what we need to hear. His expertly crafted greetings ease you into every new day and guide you out in the most encouraging way possible, constantly reminding you of how much you are capable of.
