Girls varsity basketball preview: Grandville Bulldogs
Coming off of an impressive win Tuesday night, the girls varsity basketball team will host an 0-1 Grandville team tomorrow night. The Bulldogs’ first loss came to the talented East Grand Rapids Pioneers earlier this week.
FHC and Grandville met last year in the Rangers’ season-opener. An impressive defensive outing from both teams resulted in a low-scoring first half that ended in a 16-16 tie. A slow third quarter from the Rangers allowed Grandville to run away with it to win 39-28.
The Rangers will have to work hard in their tight man defense to keep Grandville’s talented outside shooters under wraps tomorrow night. Senior shooting guard Anna Hurley will be a key hot hand for the Bulldogs, as she was the leading scorer for Grandville and averaged 13 points a game last year.
The Rangers are well-equipped with offensive weapons of their own in senior Claire Baguley and freshman Theryn Hallock, as the two combined for 30 of FHC’s 52 points in Tuesday’s game earlier this week. Also in that game, the Lady Rangers struggled with turnovers and defensive rebounding. An improvement in both of these categories, combined with the otherwise high-level play, could be the factor that allows FHC to take down Grandville in a statement win tomorrow night.
