Boys freshman basketball defeats Northview 55-30
Conference play has begun, and the boys freshman basketball team knocked out Northview in a 55-30 win, making the Rangers 1-0 in the OK White.
From the start of the first quarter, the Rangers dominated both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. Some early stops and multiple steals allowed the freshmen guys to lead 10-5 by the end of the first quarter. The same tempo had been set for the rest of the game, as they then lead 28-10 at halftime.
The Rangers knew that they had the momentum and skill to control the rest of the game, and that is exactly what they did. Out of the locker room came freshman Jacob Bonnett, who led the team with 23 points on the night. Jacob hit four three-pointers throughout the game, which was key for the FHC victory. Freshman Pierson VanGorp was also a key part to this win. Pierson had 8 points but was by far the best defensive player out on the court throughout the whole game. All 13 guys on the roster played a part in this game, which ended in an easy 55-30 win for the Rangers.
The freshmen boys are now 5-2 in regular play and 1-0 in the conference. Their next game is Tuesday, Jan. 8 at home against Greenville.
“I’m proud of how our guys played in their first high school conference game,” head coach Adam Monroe said. “To go into Northview and get a win like that was huge for us.”
