Varsity ice hockey earns 3-2 victory over Catholic Central
Last night, the varsity ice hockey team took on Catholic Central on the road. After a back and forth nail-biter, the Rangers inched out a 3-2 victory in the last 23 seconds of the game.
The Ranger offense started off slower than usual, ending the first period down 1-0. Coming back for a stronger second period, sophomore Mason Kelly put one in to tie up the game for FHC, and junior Hayden Sarjeant put in a second one to give the boys a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period. Heading into the third period with the Rangers up, the Cougars fired back just a minute into the period, tying the game up at 2-2. With only 23 seconds left in the game, junior Cole Munger pushed into a three-on-one situation during a penalty kill, took a shot, and put one in to bring home the win for the Rangers.
After two tough losses last weekend, the Rangers have found their way back to their winning ways to put their record at 11-3-1 on the season. The next game for the boys will take place Friday, Jan. 11 against East Grand Rapids at home.
