JV water polo edges out Hudsonville on opening night 8-6
On opening night for the FH girls JV water polo team, the ladies were able to pull out a big win over Hudsonville 8-6. Sophomores Rachel Schenk and Sofia Johnson were huge keys to last night’s win. Rachel made 2 big lob shots to build on the FH lead, and Sofia took advantage of some mistakes made on the Eagles’ behalf by making a big 5-meter shot to turn the tide in favor of Forest Hills. The team will hit the road to take on Jenison on Thursday and hope to build on this momentum.
FH started out great in the first quarter by getting many offensive opportunities, and it started to overwhelm Hudsonville from the start. The second quarter was good as well, as Rachel and Sofia started to create opportunities for their teammates and continued the offensive success for Forest Hills. The second half, however, was when the Eagles started to get going on offense, storming back to cut the FH lead to 2. The ladies did an excellent job on defense in the fourth quarter, sustaining the lead and winning the game 8-6.
This win puts FH at 1-0 on the season. The team will now focus its attention on a quick turnaround against Jenison on Thursday. In order to have success, Forest Hills will need to work on its shooting as well as taking advantage of six-on-five opportunities; the girls could have opened the lead even more if they could convert on these opportunities.
