Girls varsity soccer defeats Rockford 4-0 in revenge game
In a cold and snowy environment, the girls varsity soccer team was able to capture a revenge win up in Rockford 4-0 in a great team effort. Senior Ashley Ward scored 2 of the 4 goals for the Lady Rangers and was helped offensively by goals from freshman Lauren Koczenasz and junior Ally Francisco. As good as the offense was, the defense was the highlight of the game, as Rockford could not get a single goal the entire game.
The first half was very solid, as just in the first two minutes of the game, Lauren put the Lady Rangers on the board with a goal. The midfielders and defenders did a great job early on of keeping the ball away from the goal and creating opportunities for the offense. Ashley was able to score her 2 goals in the first half to extend the FHC lead and go into halftime with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
In the second half, the Lady Ranger defense continued to show up. The strong defensive playmaking along with a little help of some snow during the game made it hard for Rockford to work its offense. FHC, however, processed the ball very well despite the field conditions with quick passing and quick ball movement. Ally closed the game up with a strong goal with two minutes left, as the Lady Rangers took a nice revenge victory 4-0.
This win for FHC puts the Rangers at 1-0 on the season and gives them a lot of confidence just in the start of a tough non-conference schedule. The Lady Rangers will take on the East Kentwood Falcons on the road. Last year, FHC defeated EJ 2-0 and will look to do the same come Friday. If the Lady Rangers can play consistently for the entire game as they did against a great Rockford team, look for FHC to win again come Friday night.
