JV softball drops season-opener to Grandville 16-3
Junior Katie Willemin was a spark for the JV softball team in the short game, as she went 2-2 off of a couple of bunts. Despite Katie’s 1.000 night, the Bulldogs of Grandville came out swinging to take the game 16-3.
Sophomore Bela Gonzalez toed the mound against a potent Grandville offense. The Bulldogs tallied 13 hits, while Bela earned 3 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk.
At the plate, Bela also recorded a hit, and junior Maddy Wahl hit .333 on the night with a solid base hit. The Ranger defense was solid, but Grandville was able to have 16 girls cross the plate on 13 hits.
The Rangers dropped the season-opener, falling to 0-1 on the year. FHC is back in action at home on Thursday when the girls will host the Chix of Zeeland East for their home-opener and the first doubleheader on the season. The Rangers will need much more offensive production in future games to coincide with the tight defense in order to have success.
