JV baseball starts season off hot, defeats FHN 14-3
More stories from Sam Tuori
Thanks to sophomore Sean MacLeod having a huge all-around game, the JV baseball team was able to start the season off right with a big 14-3 victory over rival Forest Hills Northern.
Sean was sensational both at the plate and on the mound, as he pitched 5 innings, striking out 2 batters, and only allowing 3 runs. At the plate, Sean went 3 for 5 and collected 5 RBI’s. Sophomores Maguire Mahacek and Nathan Sigg also had big days at the plate, as Maguire collected 3 hits and 3 RBI’s and Nathan had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Maguire, along with the rest of the defense, made great plays in the field all night long to back up Sean’s good pitching outing.
The Rangers were able to mercy rule the Huskies, thanks in large part to a 5 run bottom of the sixth, and a great top of the sixth pitching outing by sophomore Alec Gast.
The Husky bats woke up in the second game between these two, and that combined with multiple errors by the Rangers’ defense allowed FHN to score 7 runs in the first three innings. After the third, with the Huskies leading 7-1, the game was suspended due to darkness. It will pick up right where it left off on Friday at Forest Hills Northern and will be followed by a full game between the two.
