Track and field team takes on the Grand Rapids Elite Challenge
On Saturday, FHC traveled to Houseman field, where they competed against 16 other schools.
In the 400-meter for the boys, three FHC runners placed in the top five. Senior Geoffrey Batterbee placed first, followed by junior Patrick Ho in second, and senior Kai Hagadorn in third. Geoffrey also went on to place fourth in the 800-meter. In the 1600-meter elite, sophomore Kyle James-Heer placed fourth to represent the Rangers. For shot put, the Rangers highest place was ninth as sophomore Daniel Dykstra earned a spot in the top ten for FHC. In discus, freshman Will Richardson placed second for FHC.
For the girls, senior Claire Baguley placed second in the 400-meter. Senior Courtney McAlindon placed third for FHC in the 800-meter elite, and junior Nicole Marco clinched fifth place for FHC in the 1600-meter. For the 100-meter hurdles, junior Megan Raisch placed third. She was followed by fellow junior Olivia Jeong, who finished in fourth. In the field, freshman Grace Hudkins placed fifth in shot put. For the varsity high jump, sophomore Taylor Baumgardner placed third, and junior Ashlyn Korpak and senior Diane Sietsema tied for third in the elite high jump. FHC senior Kelsey Becker placed third in the pole vault. Finally, senior Madisyn Bunke placed second in the long jump.
Overall, the boys placed eighth and the girls placed fourth. Tomorrow, FHC will travel to Greenville for the OK White quad.
