Varsity baseball picks up a big win over FHN 11-5

Senior Kyle Wojczynski went 3-5 at the plate to lead the Rangers to a big rivalry win over Forest Hills Northern 11-5.

This game got started way back on April 10 with the Huskies leading 2-1 after two innings. The game was called short due to darkness, and its completion was not reached until last night.

FHC was able to come out hot on the offensive end, racking up 12 hits to FHN’s 7. With the game tied at 4 in the fifth inning, junior Grant Coughlin drew a walk to score 1 run. This was the beginning of a big 5-run fifth inning that put the Huskies away for good.

Senior Ethan Vredenberg went 2-3 at the plate with a walk, while senior Adam Tellier and Grant led the team in RBIs with 3 and 2, respectively. Adam, Ethan, senior Cole Coughlin, and senior Jacob Hornbeck each were able to score 2 runs in this offensive explosion.

Cole took the mound for four innings while surrendering 3 runs on 6 hits with a walk and 4 strikeouts. Sophomore Joey Wise came in late for relief in the seventh inning, and the Ranger defense committed just 1 error behind the mound.

FHC moves to 6-6 (6-2) on the year and is 1-1 against Forest Hills Northern. The Rangers are scheduled to take on Ottawa Hills tonight, and the boys will then complete the series against the Huskies and take on Forest Hills Eastern in a Battle of the Hills at Fifth Third Ballpark this Friday.
