JV water polo falls to EGR 7-3 in hard-fought game
After a big win against Portage United on Tuesday night, the JV water polo team shifted its attention to a rivalry game against East Grand Rapids. Unfortunately, the girls fell to the Pioneers 7-3 in a game that was a battle until the end. Freshmen Caroline Bell and Avery Verlinde continued to succeed offensively, and sophomore Rachel Schenk continued her success on the defensive end with 6 steals and 2 field blocks.
EGR got off to a hot start offensively, and FH had to make some adjustments as the game went on. The team eventually found its groove late in the first half and started to get consistent stops thanks to Rachel’s superb effort defensively. Caroline found the back of the net a couple of times and it looked like FH could start to make a bit of a comeback. However, the defense of EGR was too much, and FH eventually lost by 7-3.
This loss ends a four-game winning streak for FH, as they now sit at 14-6 on the season. The ladies now prepare for their grand finale where they will head back to EGR for their final tournament of the season.
