Twelve members of Track and Field qualify for State meet after Regionals
On Friday, May 17, some very deserving members of the track and field team traveled to East Lansing to take part in the Regional meet. To start off the day, junior Patrick Ho placed fifth in the 200-meter, and then senior Geoffrey Batterbee placed third in the 800-meter.
The 4×400 relay of Geoffrey, senior Kai Hagadorn, junior Patrick Ho, and freshman Sam Yeager placed second, also breaking a seven-year-old school record. They ended with a time of 3:26.6, which sends them to the State meet. FHC’s girls 4×800 relay of seniors Susannah Bennett and Courtney MacAlindon, junior Nicole Marco, and freshman Rachel Marco also placed second at regionals and will be joining the team at states. Senior Ryan Talbot placed first in the pole vault, earning him a trip to States.
Senior Claire Baguley placed first in the 400-meter, becoming a Regional champion. In the 800-meter, senior Courtney McAlindon placed second with junior Nicole Marco coming in behind her in third. Junior Megan Raisch represented FHC in the 100-meter hurdles and placed fourth. In the pole vault, senior Kelsey Becker placed first. FHC then placed first in the 4×400 relay. The girls making up the team were Courtney, Nicole, Claire, and senior Madisyn Bunke, who recently broke the school record. Not only did they claim a spot in States, but they shattered their own school record in the event.
With 12 members moving on to States, the qualified runners will compete on Saturday, June 1st at East Kentwood High School.
