The Forest Hills Central JV baseball team struggled mightily on Friday, dropping both games of the doubleheader to one of the best teams in the area, the Hudsonville Eagles, 10-0 and 11-3.

In game one, the Rangers sent sophomore Maguire Mahacek to the mound. In the first inning, the Eagles’ first 4 batters were all able to reach base and later score to take a 4-0 lead in the opening frame. In the second inning, thanks to a hit batter and error, Hudsonville was able to add 2 more runs, extending the lead to 6-0. Sophomore Logan Vanlente was the only Ranger that was able to record a hit off of the Eagles’ pitcher, who was able to throw a complete game shutout, striking out 4 Ranger batters in the process. Hudsonville was able to take on 4 more runs in the final five innings, sealing a convincing 10-0 victory.

Although they were able to score, game 2 was not much better for the Rangers. Freshman Joey Seurynck got the start for FHC, and he was able to get off to a good start, retiring the first 3 Eagle batters in order. In the top of the second inning, a combination of walks, errors and timely Hudsonville hitting led to 7 runs by the Eagles. The Rangers were able to respond in the bottom of the second, as Joey and sophomore Isaac Gurley both walked and later came around to score to cut the lead to 7-2.

But the Eagles were able to strike for 3 more runs over the next two innings, killing any chance of a Ranger rally. FHC was able to score 1 run in the bottom of the sixth, but they couldn’t get anything going, mustering just 5 hits and dropping the second game 11-3. The Rangers fall to 9-8 on the season and will play next on Monday afternoon when they travel to face Greenville in a doubleheader.
