JV softball finishes season with two big wins over Greenville
Sophomore Bela Gonzalez had a career night in the circle to lead the Rangers to two big conference wins over Greenville last night. Behind Bela, FHC won the first game 9-1, and with an offensive explosion, the Rangers took the second game of the doubleheader 14-4.
Bela racked up 14 strikeouts in game one while allowing only 2 hits and giving up a single walk. While FHC also only earned 2 hits on the offensive side—by Bela and junior Anna Breaugh—the Rangers took full advantage of 7 walks and 3 errors by the Yellow Jackets’ defense to win it 9-1.
In game two of the night, freshman Alyssa Wierenga took the mound to allow 4 runs on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks.
The Rangers’ bats were hot in this game, as they tallied 14 hits. Bela and freshman Leanna Clark both went 2-3 with a triple, while Alyssa and freshmen Georgia Alstadt and Remmie Gavle all earned multiple base hits. Anna and fellow junior Maddy Wahl both hit .500 in this game to contribute to FHC’s big offensive production. The Rangers went on to win it 14-4 in five innings.
This game marked the Rangers’ final game of the season. FHC finished with a final overall record of 9-13 and a final conference record of 8-7. This JV team will be the future of the FHC softball program, as the varsity team graduates nine seniors at the end of this season.
