After making the long bus ride to London, Ontario, the FHC crew team competed in the Doug and Sam Wells Western Ontario Secondary School Association Rowing Championships on Saturday morning. Competing against 24 other teams, inclement weather cost the Rangers many chances at placing in the top 3. Thanks to the aforementioned weather, many of the final races were canceled.
In a finals race that was able to be completed before the weather canceled the event, the Ranger girls varsity 8 boat was able to fight through extremely poor rowing conditions, securing third place and only missing out on second place by a second. Of the other final races that were able to be completed, FHC was able to medal in the boys junior 4 and 8, the boys junior lightweight 4, as well as the girls junior lightweight 4 boat.
Next weekend, the Rangers will once again head to Canada to compete in the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association Regatta, one of the largest regattas in North America, consisting of over 130 teams.
