Boys JV Basketball starts of the season with a win over FHE

The Ranger JV boys Basketball team kicked off their season last night against Forest Hills Eastern. Since this was the first game of the season, the boys were going into the game blind, not knowing what to expect of the opposing team’s play. Ultimately, the Rangers pulled out a win at the end of the night, with a score of 45-34.

During the start of the game the pace was a bit off, the boys weren’t playing as well as they usually do. Plays were not run as smoothly and the team had an off shooting night, but they kept pushing through to get their wanted result.

“The game was definitely not as smooth as we expected or hoped it would be, but I’m really proud of our guys and how they fought all night,” Head coach Jordan George said.

Earlier in the week the team’s starting point guard, sophomore Ben Scholler, suffered from an injury that prevented him from playing in last night’s game. Sophomore Joe Murdock stepped up in his place, in which he provided great energy and filled the position well. Sophomores Jacob Bonnett, Pierson VanGorp, and Joe Seureynck also performed very well. Pierson held the team together offensively and Joe had some great buckets from down low. In a great play midway through the third quarter, Jacob drove on a ball and passed it ahead to Joe Murdock for a layup. After that play, the team never looked back.

The boys’ next game is on Thursday, December 19th at 6:30 PM. They will be facing East Kentwood at EK.
