Girls freshman basketball suffers loss to powerhouse Rockford Rams
This past week, the freshman girls basketball team took on the Rockford Rams in its second game of the new season. Despite their best efforts, the girls were not able to walk away with a win and fell to the Rams with a score of 46-37.
The first quarter started off a little shaky for the Rangers, and they finished the initial eight minutes trailing 18-0. However, they came out with a whole new attitude in the second quarter and were able to put twelve points on the board compared to the Rams’ eight. Freshman Maya Holser contributed immensely to the score in the second and had put up six points. Alongside her was freshman Frankie Sutton, who had four of the Rangers’ points. As the second quarter ended, the Rangers headed into halftime down 24-12.
The Rams came into the third quarter hot and scored 14 points versus the Rangers’ five points in the third. However, the fourth quarter was huge for the Rangers as they had 20 points, more than doubling their points for far in the game; on top of that, the Rams only put up eight. Once again, Maya proved her dominance in the post and put up 12 points in the fourth quarter alone for the Rangers. To top off her night as well, Frankie was stellar in the guard position and had six more points to contribute to the Rangers.
Despite this tough loss, the Rangers will take on the Forest Hills Eastern Hawks this Thursday, December 12. The game will tip-off at 5:30 pm in the Forest Hills Central New Gym.
