Rosy cheeks, plump lips, and eyelashes dark like the midnight sky. As a little girl that aspired to be mature for her age, makeup always had a certain appeal to me. I would watch the women in my life apply it to their faces with such a graceful hand—how could I not be intrigued? From my grandma’s vibrant pink lipstick to my sister’s first mascara. My fascination grew with each passing day.

Given that I was around eleven or twelve at the time, I desperately wanted more experience with the art of makeup, so I turned to one of the only reliable sources I could think of. Youtube. I had never been much of an avid youtube watcher, but for this specific occasion, I deemed it appropriate.

I typed in “makeup for beginners,” and soon after that, I started to get the hang of it. The rosy cheeks, the plump lips, and even the dark lashes. And it was all thanks to Youtube.

Once I became a little more advanced, one of the main YouTubers I looked to was Sylvia Gani. She taught me the dos and don’ts of makeup. Her channel has evolved over the years, but I still remain a loyal subscriber.

The content mostly revolves around makeup, which is something that interests me, but it’s the quality of the content that makes me keep clicking on her videos.

Sylvia’s personality on camera is spunky and bright. She makes her videos engaging, which can sometimes be a hard task, especially when it comes to makeup tutorials.

She is able to expertly mash together helpful tips of what makeup is the best while still being creative with each new video.

Some of my personal favorites are her Cheap vs. Expensive Makeup, her Frozen Makeup challenge, and her various brand testing videos.

From the beginning of my makeup journey till now, she has been able to teach me things I would have otherwise never thought of. She has such a technical approach when she applies the makeup that I am able to catch onto things purely by watching her hand movement and where she applies everything.

In every new experience we embark upon, it is important to always remain ourselves, and part of showing the world who we are is having the confidence to do it. When I watch Sylvia’s channel, she gives me new inspiration for looks I want to try to better express to the world who I am.

This channel has been an outlet for me on several occasions. Her expert eye for makeup and her natural presence on camera are a few reasons why I have continued to adore her channel. Even now, when my fascination with makeup has started to dwindle. She seems to spark something in me I can only describe as a childlike fascination.
