Girls freshman volleyball takes care of Byron Center in three sets

The girls freshman volleyball team had another home game, this time against Byron Center. They knew this would be a close game and that Byron Center was a pretty good team, but didn’t let that affect their overall mentality.

In the first game, both teams went back and forth. Byron Center is a very solid team, and they were showing it early as they finally started to take a lead over the Rangers. The girls tried to fight back but the Bulldogs were just too much for them, winning by a score of 25-16. The girls bounced back in the second game, thanks to freshman Tz Cumbo, who had a great game coming up with lots of amazing hits and serves. The girls kept the same energy throughout the whole game, and won 25-17.

In the last set, the girls were still playing great, but were thoroughly matched by Byron Center. The game was once again going back and forth with no team really gaining a huge lead. The girls were having a tough time, up until freshman Ashtyn Scarlato came up big and made some great plays down the stretch.

“Ashtyn Scarlato had a really great game,” her teammate Kadence Roelfzema said

The girls eventually got a solid lead and never let up and won the game 25-13. They are now 6-0 on the season, and look to keep that going at the Grand Haven Lakeshore Classic event.
