Micah is a sophomore who has just returned to The Central Trend after a whole semester away. She has been passionate about writing for as long as she can remember and is so excited to work with the rest of TCT‘s amazing staff. Aside from school, she plays the piano and guitar, participates in theater, and plays softball. Micah spends her time rewatching Community and taking .5’s of her younger siblings. She is thrilled to write alongside her TCT classmates and Mr. George Jr. in room 216, despite the lack of Mr. George Sr.’s beloved couches.

Everyone’s falling into place and I’m falling behind

I am starting to hate French. Little, green, eighth-grade me glorified the AP dream. French all five years, take the AP test, and get my Seal of Biliteracy. The perfect plan–but just the naive musings...

Josh Harmon descends into a dark subway station just as his album descends into dark desensitization.

Josh Harmon’s solo alias, deeper sleeper, has become a common factor in my sad, autumn playlists

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor November 4, 2024

I can confidently say that the worst thing about listening to a relatively niche band or artist is not having anyone to share it with. Days dancing in my yard as I rake leaves with The Backseat Lovers...

A collection of various pop-culture inspired Halloween looks from year 2024.

2024’s Halloween lookbook, complete with a multitude of pop culture moments from this year

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor October 11, 2024

As Lindsey Lohan once said, “Halloween is the one night a year where a girl can dress up—” That’s where the quote will end today, I think.  Anyway, in the modern age of 2024, where the average...

A collection of images from last years tailgate, full of fun and Ranger Pride

FHC’s seventh annual homecoming tailgate underlines the importance of Ranger community and Ranger pride

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor October 10, 2024

FHC’s annual homecoming tailgate started with Brad Anderson, a dumpster, and a dream.  Believe it or not, our homecoming tailgate—the largest high school tailgate in the state of Michigan—began...

Bailey and Micah stand in a scenic landscape in Arizona—a picture that, like the sound of a whip, perfectly encapsulates the essence of "Ride All Day."

The Figs’ debut album encompasses the nostalgic feeling of campfire songs, barefoot crusades, and late summer thunder shows

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor October 4, 2024

In the meta-modern age of 2024, I can confidently say that I have discovered most of my favorite bands and musical artists online. For the longest time, I prided myself on my tendency to favor “dad”...

Candles on the cake, wishes on the camera

Candles on the cake, wishes on the camera

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor September 27, 2024

09/26/2009 A baby sits on a high chair, her knees bouncing and basking in the early autumn sun. Her legs tremble even more as she eagerly awaits the colorful, icing-slathered cake she sees in her mother’s...

Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes at the Arrowhead stadium almost a year ago.

You don’t need to have the same political beliefs to be friends with someone

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor September 20, 2024

Taylor Swift, as if one doesn’t hear that name enough, is under fire for hugging her friend. That’s right, the exalted American singer-songwriter embraced her year-long friend, Brittany Mahomes, and...

Jordan George stands with his father, a veteran in English teaching, coaching varsity basketball, and being the advisor for The Central Trend.

Jordan George follows in the footsteps of his father, mirroring the teacher, coach, and advisor that FHC students know and love

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor September 13, 2024

On Friday, April 20, 2024, the staff of The Central Trend (TCT) received disappointing, if not devastating, news—their beloved teacher and advisor, Ken George, was leaving FHC. But this shocking announcement...

Clairo’s Charm is the perfect album for study sessions

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor September 10, 2024

Although I was excited to see my schedule on Aug. 1, the PowerSchool notification on my phone brought me to the realization that summer was ending. Like many other teenagers, I had not hung out with my...

The sun grows the tree of history; it knows the roots, the fruits, and the flowers.

Nothing is new under the sun

Micah McClarty, Copy Editor September 6, 2024

The earth rotates around the sun at 1038 miles an hour, 24,912 miles a day, a total of 584 million miles—one full rotation—in a year.  In that time, the sun's light seeps into the darkest, most...

Subtle inequality in public spaces enforce unnecessary gender roles

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer December 12, 2023

About a month ago, a friend and I went to see The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes on the day of the film’s release. I was giddy to see another addition to the acclaimed series after rewatching the original...

Little me, who attempted to pursue the career of a pop star

I miss my childhood memories and already miss room 139

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer December 8, 2023

When I was a little girl, I slept with a blanket—as most do. This blanket was special, though. It was my version of a stuffed animal, dubbed “Blankie,” cleverly enough. I slept with it every night...

A picture of Ellory Zietz' home from winter last year, with both Christmas and Hanukkah decor.

Despite religious differences, everyone can agree that the best part of winter holidays is being with family

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer December 5, 2023

Freshman Kayla Boerma is very excited to see her relatives for Christmas. Like many other Christians, Kayla enjoys all of the traditions and celebrations that come with Christmas. She loves spending...

A sunrise that is memorable and unique, like my name, and beautiful like the one I wish I had.

My name belongs to men

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 28, 2023

When I was younger, every time I stepped into a tourist shop in a highly visited area, I scanned the rotating rack of cheap souvenirs for my name. It was never there. Even if it was, it wouldn’t be decorated...

You spend four years of your life in high school; try to enjoy it

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 17, 2023

I can’t wait until Thanksgiving break. But after Thanksgiving break, I won’t be able to wait until winter break. After winter break, I won’t be able to wait until spring break, and so on and so...

This is the blind giddiness of a relationship that I dream of having

I long for immature love

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 7, 2023

I have many crushes. A hallway crush, a childhood crush. A crush for half of my classes. A studio crush and a returning crush. Most of these people haven’t spoken a word to me, and I don’t talk...

Media has a catastrophic effect on young girls’ body images

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 3, 2023

“Hello, I’m a fat person, fat, fat, fat.”  This introduction is certainly not the statement one might expect from a 6-year-old girl’s lips. Stereotypically, preschool to elementary-aged girls...

HOSA helps students expand their medical knowledge and relationships with each other

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer October 31, 2023

The “TikTokification” of modern music has destroyed the pop genre

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer October 30, 2023

Last spring, my brother and I listened to music while he drove me home from my youth group. Throughout the ride, he skipped through some of his favorite flavorless raps, only listening to the first minute...
