Micah is a freshman who has just recently joined The Central Trend. She has been passionate about writing for as long as she can remember and is so excited to work with the rest of The Central Trend's amazing staff. Aside from school, she plays the piano both independently and in a band alongside some of her best friends. She has recently started playing both the electric and acoustic guitars and wants to continue to learn new instruments. Aside from music, Micah spends her time rewatching Community and messing around with her younger siblings. She is so thrilled to write alongside her TCT classmates in room 139.

Her favorite Band: The Backseat Lovers and Weezer

Her Lucky Number: 2

Her Comfort Movie: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Ratatouille

Her Favorite President: Gerald R. Ford

I miss my childhood memories and already miss room 139

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer December 8, 2023

When I was a little girl, I slept with a blanket—as most do. This blanket was special, though. It was my version of a stuffed animal, dubbed “Blankie,” cleverly enough. I slept with it every night...

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer December 5, 2023

Freshman Kayla Boerma is very excited to see her relatives for Christmas. Like many other Christians, Kayla enjoys all of the traditions and celebrations that come with Christmas. She loves spending...

A sunrise that is memorable and unique, like my name, and beautiful like the one I wish I had.

My name belongs to men

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 28, 2023

When I was younger, every time I stepped into a tourist shop in a highly visited area, I scanned the rotating rack of cheap souvenirs for my name. It was never there. Even if it was, it wouldn’t be decorated...

You spend four years of your life in high school; try to enjoy it

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 17, 2023

I can’t wait until Thanksgiving break. But after Thanksgiving break, I won’t be able to wait until winter break. After winter break, I won’t be able to wait until spring break, and so on and so...

This is the blind giddiness of a relationship that I dream of having

I long for immature love

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 7, 2023

I have many crushes. A hallway crush, a childhood crush. A crush for half of my classes. A studio crush and a returning crush. Most of these people haven’t spoken a word to me, and I don’t talk...

How Classic Barbie would look next to an average American 19-year-old

Media has a catastrophic effect on young girls’ body images

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer November 3, 2023

“Hello, I’m a fat person, fat, fat, fat.”  This introduction is certainly not the statement one might expect from a 6-year-old girl’s lips. Stereotypically, preschool to elementary-aged girls...

Micah McClarty, Junior Writer October 30, 2023

Last spring, my brother and I listened to music while he drove me home from my youth group. Throughout the ride, he skipped through some of his favorite flavorless raps, only listening to the first minute...
