Brooke Ligertwood

I have always been a fan of the band Hillsong Worship. I was especially in love with listening to Brooke Ligertwood—one of the members of the band—taking the lead in their songs. Her moving, mellow voice is one part of this artist that shouldn’t be overlooked. Ligertwood was originally from New Zealand and was a member of the Hillsong Worship band from 2005 to 2010. Later on, in 2016, she rejoined the band.

Ever since the pandemic struck and people have been dealing with quarantine, it felt like a million years of not hearing Ligertwood’s music anymore. Fortunately, two months ago, I finally caught up with a new song that she made, along with an artist named Brandon Lake. It was simply called “Honey On The Rock.” As soon as the song began playing, it opened with a guitar being played, which was a familiar intro that I’ve always heard in her music. She then sang out the chorus right away.

I can imagine her singing this song from what I’ve seen on all of Hillsong’s music videos that I’ve watched before: Ligertwood standing on a stage with a countless number of people sitting down and being entertained by her performance. Usually, I see her playing the guitar while her lips chant the words aloud into the microphone, her smile stretched across her positive face. When the song kept on going, the way Ligertwood led the first verse and the repeated lyrics “there’s honey on the rock” gave me a heavy amount of nostalgia of the memories of the youth worship song services that we do at my church.

The collaboration with Lake even took more of the heat and I found that fulfilling. Lake shared his secular-pop-like style, and he even made “Honey On The Rock” more energetic in a shorter time. It came out three months ago, and I would have to say that this is one of the best contemporary Christian songs I’ve heard in 2022. I would also have to say that I would love to have Ligertwood and Lake work on more music collaborations together as soon as possible. I am proud of Ligertwood and the fact that she is willing to and capable of cooperating with one of my other favorite gospel artists. With these two doing a duet, the outcome comes out as a true treasure and beauty. But that’s not the only aspect that fills my heart with joy.

It’s also about my own love for the hobby of singing and playing the piano. To be honest, if I have some time, I would use it to learn the chords and keys that go along with it as well as all of the lyrics. I’m excited to take that opportunity of remembering my younger self being obsessed with singing like Ligertwood. I hope that I’ll nail it soon enough, and my hope comes true, I can’t say enough to thank these two wonderful singers. So, I won’t give up searching for the possible masterpieces of the combination of these two.
