Sam Ovens- Musical Q&A

What are you most excited about?

“My part, honestly. I love playing the part of a [jerk-ish kind of ] guy and to act that way. In real life, I’m not that way at all, but it’s fun to be the guy that everyone hates.”

What makes you fit your role so well?

“Honestly, the hair. The dentist needs to look like a greaser and with a head of hair [like mine], slick [mine] back, put it in a pompadour; I look like a greaser. Put me in a leather jacket, perfect.”

What is your favorite part about being involved in the musical?

“It has to be the people. Us as a cast, because [the cast] is so small, we bond really well.”

What should the audience be excited for?

“Definitely the singing. If anyone ever wondered if Jake Lohrke could sing, heck yes, Jake Lohrke can sing. Jake Lohrke can slay. [He is] fantastic.”

What is your favorite part of your role?

“I really enjoy getting to be a different person than who I am in reality.”

What similarities are there between you and your character?

“The hair and the leather jackets.”

What other activities/clubs do you participate in besides theater?

“I am in the Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Wind Ensemble.”

Do you think theater has affected your overall high school experience? Why or why not?

“100%. Taking theater sophomore year and being in the play really brought me out of my shell. I was really nervous and not very confident my freshman year and theater really allowed me to break out of my shell and come into my own.”
