What is your outlook for the season?
“[I’m] looking to win Regionals and carry the momentum to make a deep run into States.”
Why do you play doubles instead of singles?
“I wanted to play with a partner and see how I like doubles instead of singles and see which I like better. I like doubles better because you’re not out there alone and I have a partner to help support me and encourage me.”
What was your favorite match?
“My favorite match was freshman year in the state semifinals playing again FHN. It was my favorite because I lost the first set and I had to fight my way back in the cold rain to win the match. All the fans were cheering “Wiltjer, Wiltjer.” a couple of my friends had the FHC flag, waving it around. I ended up winning and it was the best feeling.”
Are you satisfied with the way the team has played this year?
“Our team has exceeded the expectations that were set at the beginning of the season and we have had some big wins from our single lineup. I’m proud of the team for making it so far.”
Why do you play tennis?
“I’ve been playing since I was 7 years old and it’s just a really fun sport. It teaches me to stay calm during athletics.”
What is your biggest inspiration?
“My parents because they encourage me to try my best and they love me no matter if I win or lose.”
What are your plans for the future?
“I am probably going to go to Western Michigan, but I also might try and play tennis at Hope college.”
