Varsity hockey falls to Saginaw Heritage 4-1 in Midland

Junior Caleb Verpoort and his freshman brother Logan Verpoort were key players in this game, despite another tough loss for the varsity hockey team. The Rangers fell to the Saginaw Heritage Hawks 4-1 Friday night at Midland Civic arena. Caleb scored the only Ranger goal of the night and Logan played goalie in replacement of junior Carl Mielock. Logan had some great saves despite letting in four goals.

In the first period the Rangers came out very strong as Caleb scored early which really got the Rangers’ confidence going. The first period ended with FHC up 1-0 and looking very solid both offensively and defensively. In the second and third periods Heritage came out furious, outscoring the Rangers 4-0 across two periods. Heritage took advantage of a lot of Ranger errors, which was off of lack of intensity from the Rangers.

Even though the Rangers have had painful 0-4 start to the season and are at the bottom of the OK White, they have been looking much better each game. They will face a very good H.H. Dow team Saturday night in a finale of this two game series in Midland, which will be a big test for the Rangers’ mentally.
