Varsity hockey bounces back to defeat Mona Shores 3-1
The Rangers took care of business in Muskegon Wednesday night, as they defeated the Mona Shores Sailors 3-1. Senior Jacob Demeter, junior Cole Ott, and sophomore assistant captain Hayden Sarjeant all found the back of the net Wednesday night. Junior goalie Carl Mielock made some spectacular saves and had an overall excellent game defensively.
The first period was a very well-played and dominant period for FHC. Jacob Demeter struck first with an assist from senior Charlie Brewer. The Sailors responded later in the first, as Mona got a lucky bounce and the puck slipped in the goal to tie things up at 1. Towards the end of the period, Hayden scored his first varsity goal to give the Rangers the lead heading into the second period. In the second period, both teams played evenly offensively and defensively, but Cole Ott found the back of the net six minutes in to extend the lead to 3-1. The Rangers managed to shut down the Sailors in the third period and win the game 3-1.
This was a big win for FHC, as they needed to build momentum going into important upcoming games such as Rockford, and rematches with Mona Shores, East Kentwood, and Grandville. The Rangers will take on the Sailors in a rematch this Saturday, but this time it will be played at FHC’s home ice, Patterson Ice Center. Although this is an advantage for the Rangers, they still need to come out with the same mentality they did Wednesday night.
