Girls varsity soccer defeats Lowell and Ottawa Hills
The FHC Rangers girls varsity soccer team had a very successful week securing two wins in two days against the Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills Bengals and the Lowell Red Arrows. They demolished the Bengals winning 17-0, but had a harder time against the Red Arrows to win 2-1.
The Red Arrows took the lead in the beginning of the game when they knocked a goal in off a header. The Rangers quickly responded with senior Hannah Bowling knocking in a beautiful shot in from the corner kick flag that bounced off the post and went in. Going into the second half with a 1-1 score, the stakes were high. Senior Ali Czarnecki was able to dribble through a few players and place the ball right under the keepers arm to give FHC the go-ahead goal.
Some key players for the Rangers were juniors Ashley Ward and Chloe Grooters. Ashley dominated up top and was able to get the ball up the field for the Rangers the entire game. Chloe held the back line together and made sure the Red Arrows didn’t get past her. Freshman Autumn Burns also played in the backline and made sure that the Rangers were communicating and staying strong in the backline.
