Boys varsity soccer wins in thrilling fashion over Cedar Springs 2-1
The Ranger varsity soccer team secured a much-needed win last night 2-1 over the Cedar Springs Red Hawks to improve their record to 2-4. Junior Sammy Postlewait came up big on offense and senior Geoffrey Batterbee came up big on the defensive end. The Rangers now look forward to a big rivalry game against the Pioneers of East Grand Rapids this Monday on the road.
In the first half, FHC came out strong with Sammy scoring an early goal to get the team started off hot on the offensive end. The Rangers were beating up on the Red Hawks on both sides on the ball and looked like they were going to cruise to victory. A penalty call on FHC led to Cedar Springs’ goal and turned the tides quickly against the Rangers. Cedar got a lot more shots than they did in the first half and definitely showed a lot more energy. With nine seconds left, senior Reese Walli scored a goal that could be the turning point in the season for FHC, and the Rangers took the win 2-1.
This win puts the team record at 2-4 with one tie against Northview. The other win came over Greenville at home 8-0 last week. Although the Rangers have had some tough losses to East Kentwood, Grand Rapids Christian, and Rockford, they seem to have figured things out now. East Grand Rapids on the road will be a huge test, but if FHC can play like they did the past two games, they are sure to earn a win Monday night.
