Name: Olivia Hooper
Grade: 10
Sport: Girls swim and dive
How long have you been swimming?
“I have been competitively swimming for 11 years, but I have been swimming in general for 12 or 13 years.”
Why do you swim?
“I swim because I have been swimming for as long as I can remember. It may be tough at times, but I cannot imagine my life without it.”
What stroke do you swim?
“I swim all of the strokes, but my primary stroke is Backstroke.”
Who has been the biggest inspiration throughout your swimming career?
“My siblings have always been my inspiration and motivation in my swimming career. When I was younger I wanted to be just like them. As I get older they have shown me that the hard work will pay off in the end.”
What is your personal goal for this season?
“A personal goal I have this season is to break one minute in my 100-yard Backstroke and hopefully take a final spot at the State Meet. I think the key to achieving my goal is to stay focused.”
What is a team goal for this season?
“One obvious team goal is to win as many meets as possible, but I think one major part of that is to have as many girls as possible scoring at our ‘big meets.'”
Talk a little about your time being apart of FHC swim and dive team, this year and previous years.
“I absolutely love this team. Even though I am only a sophomore, I feel like this team is a second family and I could definitely turn to my team in any situation. It’s always fun to win, but this team makes winning even more fun.”
What is a quote that inspires you?
“One quote that really inspires me is, ‘Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard’ because the amount of work you put into your training directly affects the outcome.”
What is the best part about swimming?
“The best part of swimming is the rewarding feeling that you get when you finally achieve the one goal you had been working towards, then setting a new goal for yourself the [next] meet.”
