Freshman volleyball has a successful outing at Grand Haven Invitational
Yesterday, the freshman volleyball team took part in the Grand Haven Invitational. To start, they were placed in Pool D along with Grandville, Zeeland East, and Coopersville. The difference with this invitational compared to previous games is that in Pool Play, two, rather than three sets are played.
In its first game of the day, FHC took on Zeeland East and won both sets by a score of 25-20. The second game didn’t go as well for the Rangers, as it ended in a tie against Grandville with FHC winning the first set 25-23 and Grandville winning the second set 25-21. FHC picked its momentum back up in the third game to win against Coopersville. The first set was won by FHC 25-18 and the second by FHC 25-16.
The Rangers moved on into the championship bracket where they would face Unity Christian. In set number one, Unity Christian took it with a score of 25-20. FHC came back and battled hard the second set winning that 25-22. The final set of the game was won by Unity Christian 15-10. Therefore, Unity Christian beat out FHC 2-1.
FHC had an overall successful day; this was thanks to the new, complex offense that they’ve been working on the past few games, as well as fine-tuning some little details.
A notable player on the day was freshman co-captain, Julia Carlson. Julia had major hits and tips on the offensive side that helped secure wins for the Rangers. She also performed a stellar defense and had some critical digs.
After this invite, the Rangers have momentum going into the upcoming games that they have. The next game they play is on Tuesday, October 2 at home against Greenville.
