Girls JV basketball goes 3-0 in recent weeks
Over the past two weeks, the girls JV basketball team played against the Cedar Springs Red Hawks on Jan. 10, the Ottawa Hills Bengals last Thursday, and the Forest Hills Northern Huskies last night. Key players over these past three games were sophomores Morghan Tilton, Katie Tellier, and Ava Metaj and freshman Julia Carlson.
To start the ladies’ winning streak off, they played against Cedar Springs and defeated the Red Hawks 33-23. Morghan and Ava were both able to score 11 points this game. Julia also contributed to the team with her extensive rebounding skills, finishing off with 9 rebounds and 5 points. The ladies, yet again, had an impeccable defensive performance, which led to the Red Hawks only being able to score 3 points in the first half.
In the second game, they blew out Ottawa Hills 51-9. The team really came together this game with ten of the girls scoring points to put the ladies ahead; Julia scored the team-high that night with 11. The Rangers, yet again, were playing amazing defense and for the second straight game in a row, only allowed the Bengals to score 3 points in the first half.
In the final game to finish off the 3-0 record, they defeated Forest Hills Northern 36-26. Starting off this game with a conference record of 4-0, the ladies fell behind the Huskies in the first quarter but were able to take a 2-point lead in the second; FHC would never trail for the rest of the game. Katie and Morghan led the team, with Katie scoring 14 and Morghan scoring 13. Ava played nonstop, hard defense, and Julia also added 4 points and 11 rebounds to the team’s final stats.
The ladies are going in with a 7-3 record against the East Grand Rapids Pioneers on Thursday, Jan. 24 at East Grand Rapids.
