Great pitching propels JV baseball to 9-0 and 5-0 victories
More stories from Sam Tuori
Thanks to dominating pitching performances in both games, the FHC JV Baseball team was able to pick up a pair of impressive victories over Northview, 9-0 and 5-0.
Freshman Joey Seurynck took the hill for the Rangers in game one and was sensational. Of the 22 batters he faced, he was able to start 17 of them off with first-pitch strikes, helping him to consistently get ahead of hitters in the count. Although he only struck out 3 batters, Joey was very efficient, as he was able to keep his pitch count low, pitching into the 6th inning.
Although he only needed one run of support, Joey got plenty more from the Rangers’ offense. Thanks to some poor defense from the Wildcats along with timely hitting, FHC was able to plate 5 in the first inning. Sophomores Aidan O’Meara and Sean MacLeod led the charge, as they both collected three hits. Sean and fellow sophomore Jonah Spates both drove in 2 runs. Sophomore Alec Gast came on in relief of Joey in the sixth inning, and he was able to record the final 4 outs to seal the 9-0 victory for the Rangers.
In game two, Sean turned in a phenomenal performance on the mound. He pitched 5 innings, allowed just 1 hit, and struck out 7 Wildcat batters. He also got it done on offense, as he and fellow sophomore Logan Vanlente racked up 2 hits each, and three RBI between the two of them, helping to pace the Ranger offense to 5 runs.
After the completion of the 5th inning, the game was called due to rain. With the win, the Rangers improve to 3-0 on the season, all 3 of the victories coming in conference play. FHC and Northview will tangle again on Friday, at Northview.
