JV Water polo defeats West Ottawa 7-3 in defensive slugfest
Coming off a great weekend at the Jenison JV tournament, the JV girls water polo team pulled out a win against the West Ottawa Panthers 7-3. It was an excellent defensive performance from the ladies, with sophomore Rachel Schenk leading the charge with a team-high 8 steals. FH next squares off against the East Kentwood Falcons, who it lost to in the Jenison JV tournament last week.
It was a defensive slugfest in the first half. The ladies came to play against a solid offensive West Ottawa squad. Once they started to figure out how to attack the Panthers offensively, the girls started to score goals quicker and more efficiently. Rachel, along with Avery Verlinde, scored a combined 5 goals in the first half to jump out to a 5-3 lead. In the second half, Rachel tacked on 2 more goals to close the game out and give FH the win 7-3.
The win last night puts Forest Hills at 9-4 overall. To beat East Kentwood, the ladies will need to stay consistent not just on the defensive end, but to score more on offense as well.
